Swimming pool fun, strawberry picking, yummy desserts and a few home projects has filled our week. For homeschooling we have watched so much National Geographic I feel like I have a degree in Africa’s deadliest animals!
It is a yearly tradition in our home to go strawberry picking. My 2 youngest kids would eat strawberries everyday if I let them. Luckily, less than 5 minutes away is Shlagel Farm. Their strawberries are big, bright, and sweet.
The farm also has a play ground so we spent a couple of hours picking, playing and making funny noises at the chickens!
After we got home from picking I knew the perfect dessert to make…STRAWBERRY SHORTCAKE!!! Let me tell you that this dessert was so good all you could say after a bite was “MMMMMMMM!”
I had to come up with several different ways to use the strawberries, so for breakfast one morning I made whole wheat strawberry banana muffins, no added sugar. These were light, fluffy and naturally sweet.
In addition to all of this baking, as a family we have been de-cluttering, purging, and preparing for out-of-town house guests this weekend. One of the main projects that I knew had to be complete before our guests arrived was to re-upholster my dining room chairs. After years of spills and destruction from our children the fabric on our chairs was HORRIFIC! I refuse to even show you a before picture!
I am so thankful for my friends visiting because it forced me to take on a long overdue project. I decided to get vinyl fabric so that we will no longer have stained seats. Cleaning will be a breeze, just wipe with a cloth! I am pleased with the final product. Thanks to my hubby for the help and encouragement to follow through with this project.
We have a fun filled weekend of site seeing, the beach and good eats from around the city. Hopefully our guests will enjoy their stay. And more importantly enjoy the nice dining chairs! : )
What are your highlights from the week? What are you looking forward to for the weekend?
I also love house guests because they keep me on my toes. Those overdue projects really do tend to get done when hospitality is right around the corner.
